About Beth Hands

Professor Beth Hands has been involved in research involving children and adolescents for two decades.  She is currently a Senior Research Fellow with the Institute for Health Research.  Prior to that, she was the inaugural Director of the Institute  and the Associate Dean, Health and Physical Education in the School of Health Sciences. She was the Project Director of the WA Child and Adolescent Physical Activity and Nutrition Survey 2003 (WA CAPANS) conducted by the University of Notre Dame Australia for the Premier’s Physical Activity taskforce and an Honorary Research Fellow with the Telethon ICHR.  Professor Hands founded the highly regarded AMPitup program for adolescents with movement difficulties, which now underpins a suite of research projects. She is an investigator on many grants and collaborates with leading researchers around the country and internationally.

Publications: Professor Hands’ research output includes 11 books or book chapters, 76 refereed journal articles, over 130 international and national conference papers, 12 research reports, given 6 keynote addresses and been an invited speaker on over 30 occasions. 

Grants: Professor Hands has been a CI or AI on 16 grants totalling $3,400,000, including 3 NHMRC grants.

Student Supervision: Professor Hands supervises a number of PhD, Masters and Honours students.
