SPECIALIZATION
Infancy and childhood development (birth to age 12); child development in out-of-home child care and communication between child care providers and parents to promote child development;school early mathematics preparation in out-of-home care; child development and early childhood programs in poor, rural areas of developing countries.
CCAMPIS
This is a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The purpose is to provide quality child care for undergraduate student parents and to investigate the relationship between student parent stress and child development.
AGGIE CARE
This project is aimed at improving the quality of child care throughout Cache Valley and providing quality child care for USU faculty. It is funded by the office of the Provost, USU.
CHILD CARE PROVIDER-PARENT COMMUNICATION TO ENHANCE SCHOOL READINESS
I have funding for this project from the USU Agricultural Experiment Station. The purpose of this project is to examine provider-parent communication strategies that are effective in relaying information about children's school readiness.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
I am setting up an early childhood project with the Kigali Institute of Education and the Kinamba School in Kigali, Rwanda. I have also been working in Paraguay for 9 years and have helped Pastoral del Niño, a children's relief organization, conduct a country-wide assessment of child development from birth to age 36 months. I have helped Pastoral and the Paraguayan Departments of Health and Education set up a country-wide parent-child stimulation project.
CENTER FOR WOMEN AND GENDER
75% of my time is spent working as Director of The Center for Women and Gender, an academic, research, and service unit here at USU.
SOMETHING ABOUT ME PERSONALLY
Skiing is my ultimate passion! This includes both downhill and cross-country skiing. I love to hike and camp and have recently started exploring the red rock country around Boulder, Utah. I enjoy all kinds of music and especially opera. I play the violin in the Cache Valley Chamber Orchestra. I also play the piano and organ. I love to read and this summer enjoyed The Brothers Karamazov.
