About Huatong Sun

I study how to design and innovate for usable, meaningful, and empowering technology to cross the divides resulted from cultural differences in this increasingly globalized world. My first English book Cross-Cultural Technology Design: Creating Culture-Sensitive Technology (2012) received an NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) best book award in technical communication and industry endorsements from User Experience Magazine and Fast Company|Co.Design. I am working with Oxford University Press again on a new book, Global Social Media Design.     

My research focuses on web technologies and mobile communication, informed by theories and methodologies from rhetoric and technical communication, intercultural communication, human-computer interaction, information studies, British cultural studies, and science and technology studies.

My teaching experience includes introductory and advanced courses in web and multimedia writing and design, document design, content management, computer-mediated communication, professional writing, technical and business communication, composition and ESL writing, and writing internship.
