Abstract

One big challenge in culturally sensitive technology design practices is how to inform and guide the design process with a sophisticated understanding of culture. To address this challenge, this essay presents a case study of design cards to evaluate how this genre transfers theoretical frameworks into accessible scaffolding, and how two types of cards are structured to engage multiple stakeholders, tap into the complexities of local scenarios, and produce design insights. It also examines the methodological implication of operationalizing culture for cross-cultural design practices.
