Dr Amresh Shrivastava is a consultant Psychiatrist working in the field of suicide behaviour.

He was associate Professor of Psychiatry, Western university & Physician, Psychosis program at the Regional Mental Health Care.

Dr. Shrivastava received his postgraduate training from the KEM hospital, Mumbai and obtained a diploma and an MD in psychiatry from the University of Mumbai India. He has also received membership of the Royal College of Psychiatry (MRCPsych) UK and a Fellowship of Royal College of physicians and surgeons of Canada (FRCPC).

Dr. Shrivastava worked extensively for more than 20 years in the India, was a consultant in UK for 3 years and in 2006 relocated to Canada. His academic achievements include publications of more than 100 research papers and book chapters. He is the reviewer of several psychiatric journals and member editorial boards and is the founding editor of Archives of Indian Psychiatry, an official publication of the Indian Psychiatric society western zone.

He is the founding Director of a Non-Governmental organization for mental health, PRERANA (Mumbai, India) dedicated to suicide prevention. For founding PRERANA, he received the ‘fellowship award’ from Ashoka Innovators for Public, Washington DC.

The recipient of a number of research and service awards, Dr. Shrivastava’s work primarily focused on clinical service, education and research in suicdology and schizophrenia.

His research work led to the construction of a suicide risk assessment scale (SIS-MAP) for which he received the best research paper, RO Jones award from the Canadian Psychiatric Association in 2008.

He is the chief editor of the handbooks ‘Suicide from a Global Perspective’ published recently (2011) in five volumes.

His current interests are promotion of research, education and the training of health professionals for suicide prevention using modern web technology.
