About Susan A. Vega García

Associate Professor, Head of Instruction, and liaison librarian for Ethnic Studies & Diversity. My research interests include topics in information literacy; distance and online learning; library collections and information access in race and ethnic studies; library leadership; library collections in Latin American studies. I have served since 1995 as the ISU Library's ethnic studies & diversity subject librarian. My early publications have centered on diversity & ethnic studies academic library collections and information access.

Beginning in 2000, my career has grown toward developing, strengthening, and administering the library's many information literacy initiatives. In 2002, I became the ISU Library's Instruction Coordinator as the result of a national search. In 2007, I was named the Head of the Library's Instruction Department. Accordingly, my research, conference presentations, and writings have shifted toward administration and assessment of library instruction programs; distance learning; instructional technology use for enhancing learning, information literacy instruction, and related topics.

Since 2004, I also administer the "Lib 160: Information Literacy" course, a one-credit required course for all undergraduates at ISU. The course enrolls approximately 7500 students each academic year. My many responsibilities directing this challenging high-enrollment course in large part led to my involvement with ISU's Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), becoming an Advisory Board member in 2007, Vice Chair in 2008-09, and Chair in 2009-10.

I have served on several national committees of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ALA/ACRL), been elected secretary / archivist of the very large ACRL Instruction Section (2007-09), and am a Fellow of the Association of Research Libraries Leadership & Career Development Program, the Wakonse Conference on College Teaching, and have participated in the ISU 12+ Supervisory Leadership program (2009-10) and ISU Emerging Leaders Academy (2012).
