About Sumit Dave

Sumit Dave is a Professor in the Department of Surgery and Paediatrics and the Chair of the Surgical Postgraduate Committee at Western. He works as a Paediatric Urologist at the Children’s Hospital at LHSC with a special clinical interest in reconstructive paediatric urological surgery and robotic assisted surgery.

Dr. Sumit Dave completed Medical school at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research, Pondicherry, India. After completing Pediatric Surgery residency from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi he moved on to Sydney, Australia. There he worked as a Pediatric General Surgery fellow at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, University of New South Wales. A strong desire to pursue a career in Pediatric Urology led to another transcontinental move for a two year Pediatric Urology fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and Division of Urology at Western University, and works as a pediatric urologist at London Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Dave has several contributions to the pediatric urology literature in numerous peer-reviewed journals. His primary areas of research interest include neurogenic bladder, vesicoureteric reflux and minimally invasive reconstructive pediatric urology. He completed a Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Western Ontario in 2012 and is currently enrolled as a scholar in the faculty scholar’s program at ICES Western with the aim of continuing as an ICES scientist researching pediatric surgical outcomes using the ICES administrative database. He has a daughter and his wife is an ophthalmologist.

His primary areas of clinical and research interest include surgical management of neurogenic bladder, vesicoureteric reflux and robot-assisted reconstructive pediatric urology. He was instrumental in establishing the first and only pediatric robotic program in Canada at the London Health Sciences Centre in 2014.
