Professor and Chair, Communicative Disorders and Sciences
Shaum P. Bhagat, Ph.D., CCC-A, is Professor and Chair in the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences at San José State University. Previously, Dr. Bhagat was Associate Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Memphis, where he served as the Director of the Hearing Science Research Laboratory (HSRL). The research conducted in the HSRL focused on examining otoacoustic emissions measured in typical and impaired listeners. Topics investigated include cochlear amplifier characteristics, suppression of otoacoustic emissions, and binaural interactions. Several studies completed in the HSL provided insights into the effects of acoustic experiences and ototoxic drugs on otoacoustic emissions measured in children and adults. Dr. Bhagat has published his research in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology, The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Hearing Research, Audiology and Neurotology, the International Journal of Audiology, and the American Journal of Audiology.
