- 2007 - Fulbright Senior Specialist by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars Program.
- 2006 - Became the second African American to become a full professor at the Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work since the program began in 1939.
- 1998 - Invited to attend the MaGuire Oil and Gas Institute's Oil and Gas Education Initiative, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX.2004 - Presidential Exemplary Multicultural Teaching Award by the University Of Louisville.
- 1996 - Outstanding Citizens Award given by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Federal Executive Board African-American Heritage Month Committee, Pittsburgh, PA.
- 1995 - Invited to attend the Second Summer Workshop for College Faculty sponsored by the Society for Values in Higher Education, Claremont, CA.
