About Katie Love

Dr. Katie Love, PhD, RN, PHCNS, BC, AHN-C, completed her BSN at the University of Connecticut, and earned a MSN in community/public health nursing. She completed her PhD in 2009, with her dissertation focusing on the experiences of African American nursing students and decreasing barriers. Her program of research centers on increasing professional diversity, with focus on social justice, and sustainability. Dr. Love developed the mid-range nursing theory "Empowered Holistic Nursing Education" which is a framework for teaching that integrates nursing's values of holism, compassion, and empowerment. Currently she is working on testing the theory and creating workshops to educate other nurse educator interested in using the theory in their own practice. Her clinical background includes oncology/hospice, public health, international nursing, and holistic nursing practice utlizing several modalities such as reiki, aromatherapy, guided imagery, and EFT. She holds certifications in both Advanced Holistic Nursing, and as a Public Health CNS.
