About Elizabeth D. Swanner

Dr. Swanner works at the intersection of geology, chemistry, and biology. Her work focuses on microbes that mediate redox reactions in the environment, for instance Fe(II) oxidation. Her group performs experiments on cultured microbes, assesses the distribution and activity of microbes in modern environments, and analyzes the geochemistry of sedimentary rocks for insight into the activity of microbes during the rocks' formation. Many of her research questions revolve around modern and ancient iron redox cycling.
