About Deirdra Preis

Deirdra Preis, Ed.D. is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership in the Isabelle Farrington College of Education at Sacred Heart University. Dr. Preis teaches school leadership courses leading to school administrator (092) certification and to the 6th year .
Her research has mainly centered around the challenges experienced by suburban school leaders as they work to create equitable school cultures and meet the academic, social and emotional needs of a rapidly diversifying student population. A former assistant principal, curriculum leader, dean of students and classroom health educator, she practiced for over three decades in various Connecticut school districts. While working in the secondary health education classroom, she authored numerous curricula on adolescent substance abuse prevention, social and emotional learning, and sexuality education.

Dr. Preis has worked extensively on creating unique professional development for school leaders and other educators around eliminating achievement and opportunity gaps through the incorporation of student and parent voice. She is an equity coach, has taught at Northeastern and Southern CT State Universities, has shared her work at Oxford and Harvard Universities, and travels regularly to attend and present around equity and education at professional conferences.
