Dr. Amy Lueck received her PhD in Rhetoric and Composition from University of Louisville, where she conducted research on the formation of public high schools in the nineteenth-century US. Her dissertation project used archival research methods to examine the rhetorics of institution-building in Louisville as they intersected with the emerging pedagogies and ideologies of public schooling and higher education the US. An article drawn from this project, “’A Maturity of Thought Very Rare in Young Girls’: Women’s Public Engagement in Nineteenth-Century Commencement Essays,” was recently published in Rhetoric Review, and she is pursuing other articles as well as a book-length project from this research as well.

Building from this research agenda, Lueck's writing courses often incorporate opportunities for exciting archival research on both historical and contemporary topics of interest to students. Readings and discussion center on the notion of schooling and the politics that surround educational institutions and expectations of students in the past and present. Courses also invite students to consider the ways media and modes intersect with attention to audience, context, and purpose by incorporating digital and multimodal readings and composing activities. 

Lueck is the recipient of the K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award and serves on the Executive Committee of her discipline's national organization, CCCC.
