Alan G. Wiig, PhD, is Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Community Development at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. His research in Urban Planning and Urban Geography draws on infrastructure studies, community development and economic policy critique to understand the role of information technology infrastructure and the Internet in transforming city governance, civic exchange, and economic development worldwide. Recent research examines global infrastructure connection, smart cities in east Africa, and the form, function, and politics of large-scale urban development agendas across the North Atlantic.
