Zach J. Tankersley, DPM, FACFAS is an Associate Professor and Chief of the Foot and Ankle Surgical Service at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Marshall University. Dr. Tankersley is the team podiatrist for the Marshall University Thundering Herd and an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Exercise Science, Sport, and Recreation at Marshall University. He earned his medical degree from Des Moines University before graduating his residency in foot, ankle, and lower leg surgery at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital/Temple University School of Medicine Clinical Campus in Pittsburgh, PA. After his residency, Dr. Tankersley completed an orthopaedic fellowship in Limb Deformity Reconstruction at The Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopaedics and The International Center for Limb Lengthening at The Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He then furthered his training in circular external fixation and the Ilizarov method at The Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics in Kurgan, Russia and also at The Instituto Clinico Humanitas in Milan, Italy. He has had individual instruction in the Ponseti method of clubfoot correction by Ignacio Ponseti, MD. Dr. Tankersley is board certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Tankersley has been practicing at Marshall University Orthopaedics since 2006, and specializes in reconstructive and revision surgery of the foot and ankle, clubfoot correction in infants utilizing the Ponseti method, and diabetic limb preservation.
