About Yeung-Nan Shieh

Professor Yeung-Nan Shieh was born in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan. He received a BA in economics from National Taiwan University in 1966, and a MA in economics from University of Rochester in 1976 and a Ph.D. in economics from Texas A&M University in 1980. Before coming to SJSU in 1989, he taught at Texas A&M university in College Station, Texas, University of Dallas in Irving, Texas and University of Alaska Fairbanks in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Professor Shieh's current research interests are: (1) C. F. W. Launhardt's contributions to location theory and spatial economics; (2) the impact of distance and transportation costs on the output and welfare effects of price discrimination and wage discrimination; (3) the effect of transportation costs on the optimum tariff.
