About William D. Rich

William D. Rich is an associate professor of law at the University of Akron School of Law.  He teaches Constitutional Law, First Amendment Law, Election Law, and Criminal Law.  He previously co-taught a course on AIDS and the Law.  He serves as Chairman of the University’s Faculty Senate and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Akron-Summit County Public Library.  He served as a member of the 2010 City of Akron Charter Review Commission and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Community AIDS Network of Akron.  He received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Rochester, a J.D. from the University of Denver, and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School.  Before joining the faculty, he was a staff attorney at the National Center for State Courts in Williamsburg, VA, where he directed a research project on the impact of sentencing guidelines on sentencing and plea bargaining practices.  He is a member of the Colorado bar. Since 2016, Professor Rich has served as the Chairman of the Summit County Board of Elections.
