Abstract
The modern city is described, as traffic chaos, participant poor, and a place to escape. But the city embraced its modern industrial ethos long ago.  Unceasingly, city and regional planners construct amazing transport paths to minimize the five o’clock queue in homage to automobiles.  According to modernist theory, speed is success.
But for this success, the city requires a patron, its participant.  The Participant is the vital civilizing  ingredient against the hard tectonic edge of the  streets.
