About Wade Goodridge

Wade Goodridge is an assistant professor in the department of Engineering Education at Utah State University. His background includes both an educational and engineering focus and he is currently engaged in Engineering Education research. He has taught technology and technical education courses at the junior high, and high school levels and also instructed a variety of engineering courses for Utah State University’s College of Engineering. Dr. Goodridge currently teaches engineering mechanics coursework as well as Engineering Education graduate courses focused on pedagogy/andragogy and assessment.

Dr. Goodridge has a Bachelor of Science in in both Industrial Technology Education and Civil Engineering.  He has a Master’s of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering and has a graduate certification in Fire Protection Engineering.  Dr. Goodridge’s graduate work focused on fluid dynamics and was conducted at the Utah Water Research Laboratory. Dr. Goodridge has worked extensively in teaching synchronous distance engineering courses to students across the state Utah and has co-authored a text on Solid Modeling with Solid Edge titled “Introduction to Mechanical Engineering: Emphasizing Solid Modeling of Machines and Mechanisms.”  His research interests and funding currently lie in Engineering Education and are focused on spatial cognition/visuospatial thinking, distance education, and undergraduate research student self-efficacy. He has nearly 70 publications in his field and has been an invited speaker for a Conference on Integrating Cognitive Science with Innovative Teaching in STEM Disciplines:  Modeling and Spatial Learning in STEM at a spatial ability that was sponsored by Northwestern University. Dr. Goodridge is a nationally elected engineering councilor for the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and sits on the project board for the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Dr. Goodridge has received numerous departmental teaching and undergraduate research mentoring awards. He has recently been awarded the 2018 Outstanding Undergraduate Mentor of the Year by his college, a 2018 Outstanding Research Award by the Council of Technology and Engineering Teacher Education, and a 2017 ASEE Rocky Mountain Section “Outstanding Teacher Award.” He is an active consultant for various private firms and governmental agencies in both engineering focused work as well as education based work.  Dr. Goodridge is a member of the International Technology and Engineering Education Association, the American Society for Engineering Education, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Education Research Association.
