About W. Dennis Keating

Dennis Keating is an Emeritus Professor of Urban Studies and Law. He is a former Director of the Master of Urban Planning, Design and Development (MUPDD) Program. He formerly served as Chair of the Department of Urban Studies, Director of the Office of Student Services, Acting Director of several graduate programs, and Associate Dean and Acting Dean of the College of Urban Affairs. Dr. Keating has been President of the Housing and Built Environment Research Council of the International Sociological Association. He has taught courses on shrinking cities, housing, neighborhood development, urban planning, and land use law, as well as the Planning Capstone Studio, the undergrad Senior Seminar, and Contemporary Urban Issues. He has published widely in these fields. His most recent research includes the the mortgage foreclosure crisis and its aftermath, including the responses of cities like Cleveland and the Cuyahoga County Land Bank, and the arts as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization. In Fall, 2003, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Urban Studies, University of Glasgow. He retired as a full time faculty member in 2015 but continues part time teaching and conducting research.
