About Virginia M. Tucker, PhD, MLS

Virginia Tucker is an Associate Professor in the School of Information at San José State University. Dr. Tucker teaches and coordinates curriculum in information retrieval, user-centered design, advanced search, and information architecture. She received the Outstanding Professor Award in 2018 and the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2021. Her research focuses on knowledge organization, information experience, expert search, and threshold concepts. Prior to joining the School of Information faculty, Dr. Tucker was a product architect at Dialog/Thomson (now ProQuest), the client training manager at Dialog Information Services, and the Physics Librarian at Stanford University. She was a County Law Librarian for over ten years. Dr. Tucker has a PhD in information systems from Queensland University of Technology, an MLS from the University of California at Berkeley, and a BA in music from Stanford University.
