Vicki Stroeher is currently an Assistant Professor of Music History & Theory at Marshall University where she is also Coordinator of the Music History & Literature area. She earned her Ph.D. in Musicology with secondary specialization in theory from the University of North Texas in 1994. Dr. Stroeher is currently the Allegheny Chapter representative to the American Musicological Society Council. From 2005 to 2007 she served as its president. She has also served on the program committee for the Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic and as program chair for the Allegheny Chapter of the AMS. At Marshall, she is also the chapter adviser to the Delta Kappa Chapter of Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity.
The music of English composer Benjamin Britten, music of the Twentieth Century before 1945 (particularly British composers), and text-music relationships are Dr. Stroeher’s research passions. She has presented papers on these topics to the Royal Musical Association, the Modern Languages Association, the North American British Music Studies Association, the Kentucky Foreign Languages Conference, and various regional chapters of the AMS. In 1998 she was awarded a University System of Georgia Grant to conduct research at the Britten-Pears Library in Aldeburgh, England. She is currently working on a presentation about Britten’s Auden songs to be given at the Lyrica Society session at the Modern Languages Association conference in Chicago, December 2007 and on various articles about Britten’s Michelangelo sonnets for publication.
In addition to playing tennis, cycling, and hiking, Dr. Stroeher loves to spend time with her two dogs, Sadie and Maggie. She is married to MU music professor and trombonist, Dr. Michael Stroeher. Together they have renovated one of Huntington’s old Southside homes. She volunteers with Little Victories Animal Rescue, WV FREE, and for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association to raise money for Brayden and Trevin Saunders for their transplant-related expenses.
