About Tricia Kress

Tricia M. Kress is an Associate Professor in the Educational Leadership for Diverse Learning Communities Ed.D. program at Molloy College. She received a Ph.D. in Urban Education with a doctoral certificate in Interactive Technology and Pedagogy from the City University of New York Graduate Center in 2006. She has been teaching in higher education for over 20 years, working exclusively with doctoral students since 2007. Dr. Kress’s teaching and research expertise includes curriculum and pedagogy for diverse learners, critical pedagogy and teacher development for social justice, critical and socio-cultural theories of education, and critical qualitative research methods. Currently, she teaches doctoral courses including EDU 6220: Curriculum Theories and Best Practices for Diverse Learners, EDU 6060: Ethical, Moral, and Legal Issues in Educational Leadership; and EDU 6180: Preparing for the Dissertation. Her current research focuses on integrating critical pedagogy in secondary education through dialogic methods and using young adult fiction for transformative learning. She also is conducting research about critical pedagogy and doctoral studies in partnership with Tiradentes University in Aracaju, Brazil.  Dr. Kress has authored and edited numerous scholarly publications, including Paulo Freire’s Intellectual Roots (Bloomsbury, 2013), which received the 2014 Book Award from the Society of Professors of Education. She has served as the Chair of the Paulo Freire SIG for the American Educational Research Association, and she was recently inducted into the Professors of Curriculum Honorary Society. She is also the co-editor of two book series Imagination and Praxis: Criticality and Creativity in Education and Educational Research (Brill Sense Publishers) and Transformative Imaginings: Critical Visions for the Past-Present-Future of Education (DIO Press).
