About Todd A. Chavez

I have served as the Dean for the University of South Florida Libraries since July 2015. My research focuses on the intersection between library and information science and interdisciplinary research, with projects spanning the geosciences, medieval studies, environment and natural history, and digital heritage. The results of my research have been applied 1) to the design of courses, 2) to the implementation of an open-access publishing agenda, and 3) to a series of digital library collections and services.

My previous portfolio as the Director for Academic Resource combined traditional technical services with innovations in digital scholarship, GIS and data management, and open-access publishing. In addition to my present administrative duties, I am leading the launch of an innovative suite of digital services and collections employing 3D documentation, visualization, geospatial methods, and other digital learning tools.

I possess a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and a Master of Arts degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida. I have published and presented on bibliometric analyses of scientific research, information portal design and deployment, and the role of “grey literature” in interdisciplinary scholarship. My articles and presentations appear in Publishing Research Quarterly, Numeracy, the Journal of Cave & Karst Studies, and the Proceedings of the 18thNational Cave and Karst Management Symposium.
