About S. Victor Fleischer


S. Victor (Vic) Fleischer specializes in archival science, museum studies, public history, and local history.  He holds a B.A. and M.A. in History with a concentration in American Studies and an M.L.I.S. in Library and Information Science from Kent State University.  He was formerly the University Archivist and Head of Archives & Special Collections at Youngstown State University, Director/Curator of the University’s medical history museum, and Special Collections Manager at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.  He is past Vice President and council member of the Society of Ohio Archivists, past board member and secretary of the Ohio Museums Association and Progress Through Preservation of Greater Akron.  Professor Fleischer's presentations, research, and publications focus on museum and archival studies, particularly preservation and conservation and disaster planning, preparedness, and recovery.  He also researches, writes, and presents on a number of topics regarding University and local history.  His first book, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company: A Photographic History, 1898-1951, was published by The University of Akron Press in 2020. He also co-wrote and co-produced the Emmy nominated documentary film Lost Voices of the Great War: Summit County in the First World War and served as a contributor and Associate Editor for the book Hail We Akron!: The Third Fifty Years of The University of Akron, also published by The University of Akron Press in 2020. His next book, a companion volume to Lost Voices of the Great War, is forthcoming from The University of Akron Press. He teaches bibliographic instruction, information literacy, and primary source instruction to various courses, particularly in the History, English, Communications, and Art departments and Honors College, and mentors students wishing to pursue careers in public or applied history.
