About Shari Thompson

My research interests center on race and representation, social issue documentary and film and philosophy. My documentary, The Leesburg 33, screened at the Langston Hughes African American Film Festival in Seattle, WA and was broadcast on WYBE, formerly a local Philadelphia station and PBS affiliate. The 26 minute documentary exposed the kidnapping and inhumane incarceration of 33 adolescent girls in Americus, GA after protesting segregation in 1963. I have also presented original research on racial ideology and the Disney Princess at the National Association of African American Studies Conference in Baton Rouge, LA.
