Severin de Wit is an expert in trade related intellectual property (IP) law and management. He was the co-founder of IER, one of Netherlands' leading IP journals. He practiced law (since 1978) as a partner-attorney at several law firms (Buruma Maris (currently Houthoff), Clifford Chance and lastly at Simmons & Simmons). In 2009 he left the Bar (Orde van Advocaten) to start up a IP consultancy (IPEG Consultancy) now consisting of 26 consultants from the US, UK, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark and The Netherlands).

He is a visiting Lecturer at Maastricht University (Advanced Master in Intellectual Property Law and Knowledge Management (LLM/MSc).

He studied law at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, Netherlands. He regularly writes about IP topics with a recent emphasis on IP management issues. He started in 2005 the first blog solely dedicated to IP (patents, innovation and technology, https://ipeg.com). From 1998-2003 he was deputy judge in IP cases at the District Court of The Hague, Netherlands).

He acted as a Key IPR Expert in an EU funded project (Trade Cooperation Facility) in Indonesia, to support the Indonesian Government in its attempts to improve its trade policy to attract more FDI (2012-2014).

Currently he acts as chairman of a Netherlands Lawyers Educational Organization to improve oral skills at PleitAcademie.nl (Stichting PleitAcademie, www.pleitacademie.nl).
