About Severin de Wit

Severin de Wit is an expert in trade related intellectual property (IP) law and management. He was the co-founder of IER, one of Netherlands' leading IP journals. He practiced law (since 1978) as a partner-attorney at several law firms (Buruma Maris (currently Houthoff), Clifford Chance, Simmons & Simmons). In 2005 he left the Bar (Orde van Advocaten) to start up a IP consultancy (IPEG Consultancy) now consisting of 24 consultants from the US, UK, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark and The Netherlands).
He is a visiting Lecturer at Maastricht University (Advanced Master in Intellectual Property Law and Knowledge Management (LLM/MSc).
He studied law at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, Netherlands. He regularly writes about IP topics with a recent emphasis on IP management issues. He started in 2005 the first blog solely dedicated to IP (patents, innovation and technology). His experience (from 1998-2002 as deputy judge in patent cases at the District Court of The Hague, Netherlands) gave him the experience to act as a mediator in IPR cases.
He was engaged for two years (2012-2014) as a Key IPR Expert in an EU funded project (Trade Cooperaration Facility) in Indonesia, to support the Indonesian Government in its attempts to improve its trade policy to attract more FDI.
