About Ruijie Liu

Research in my laboratory is focused on the role of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 and 2( ERK1/2) in diabetic cardiomyopathy. We use a mouse model with enhanced ERK1/2 phosphorylation due to genetic deletion of dual specificity phosphatase 6 and 8.   Diabetes in mice is chemically induced by streptozocin injection which destroys pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin. Heart disease markers ( hypertrophy, fibrosis, cell death, metabolic disorder) will be compared to determine whether activation of ERK1/2 mitigates the pathophysiology of diabetic cardiomyopathy. Students interested in research are always welcome to contact me for involvement in scientific exploration.
