About Ronald Markert

Dr. Markert earned his undergraduate degree from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania and graduate degrees from Michigan State University.  His Ph.D. is in educational psychology.  Born in Renovo, Pennsylvania, Dr. Markert began his career in education as a high school English teacher in New York, Michigan, and Australia. 
 
Since 1976 Dr. Markert has been on the medical school faculty of Michigan State University, North Texas State University, Wright State University, Creighton University, and Tulane University.  He returned to Wright State in August 2006 where he was one of three professors holding the special rank of University Professor, an honor reserved for full professors who have made outstanding contributions beyond their own disciplines.
 
Dr. Markert taught courses in Biostatistics and then Evidence Based Medicine from 1980 through 2010.  Wright State School of Medicine named Dr. Markert Teacher of the Year in 1984, 1988, 1993, 1994, 1997, and 2000.  WSU named him distinguished university professor of teaching in 1995. 
 
In 2000 Dr. Markert received the nation’s highest teaching award in medicine, the Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award, from the Association of American Medical Colleges and Alpha Omega Alpha.  Dr. Markert is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a distinction seldom bestowed on non-physicians.
 
Dr. Markert is an educational psychologist, biostatistician, and psychometrician.  He has consulted on medical education research and on clinical studies in medicine and surgery.  His most prominent areas of investigation have been trauma surgery, infectious diseases, cardiology, and gastroenterology.  He has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers in medical education and clinical medicine journals.  The scholarly work of Dr. Markert and his co-investigators has been presented at over 400 regional, national, and international professional meetings.
