Dr. Rommel Tirona is an associate professor in the departments of Medicine and Physiology and Pharmacology, Western University, as well as a scientist with the Children's Health Research Institute (CHRI).

Dr. Tirona is Associate Professor in the Departments of Physiology & Pharmacology and Medicine at the University of Western Ontario. He received both his Pharmacy degree and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Toronto.  This was followed by a Clinical Pharmacology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN.

Subsequently, Dr. Tirona was Research Scientist at Amgen Inc., Thousand Oaks, CA.  After returning to Vanderbilt University as a faculty member in the Department of Pharmacology, Dr. Tirona moved to his current position at the University of Western Ontario.  His research interests include drug transport and drug metabolism, regulation of gene expression and pharmacogenetics/pharmacokinetics as determinants of drug response and toxicity. Current research projects include the effects of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease on pharmacokinetics and the role of Organic Anion Transporting Polypeptides in drug disposition.  Dr. Tirona’s research is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
