Dr. Galley is a graduate from Nova Southeastern University’s Teaching and Learning Institute and has applied that knowledge to her instructional strategies within her Professional Issues course.  In addition to being the lead instructor for Professional Issuesand Differential Diagnosis, Dr. Galley’s focus is on clinical education.  She is responsible for organizing the integrated clinical education (ICE) component in several of the psychomotor courses and acts as clinical instructor as needed in the lab courses. 

Scholarly Activities and Interests

Dr. Galley’s extensive background in clinical Orthopaedics has been the primary focus of her scholarly activities prior to her role as DCE at Nova Southeastern University – Tampa.  She was selected to present her case study entitled “Return to Physical Activity Following a Stable Pelvic Fracture,” at the A.T. Still Graduation and has submitted for presentation at the APTA Combined Section Meeting in 2014.  She also contributed in part to the development of an Orthopaedic Residency Program for The Institute for Research and Rehabilitation (TIRR) in Houston, TX in 2005 by authoring “The Hip Module – Clinical Manifestations and Precautions Dictated by Specific Diagnoses and Surgeries.”

Since becoming Director of Clinical Education with Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Galley has focused on research in the area of clinical education and specifically in regards to the unique situation of the hybrid curriculum.  She, along with a colleague, submitted an abstract for current research regarding this topic entitled “How can a Hybrid DPT program prepare students for full time clinical internships? A novel approach to early Integrated Clinical Education (ICE).” In addition to that, she is currently collaborating with colleagues to present at CSM 2014 on transitioning a traditional course to a hybrid course.  Finally, she is currently completing the planning phase of a research study entitled “Comparing the use of Standardized Patients vs Peers in the Assessment of Psychomotor Skills in 1st Year PT Students.”  She will implement the data collection process during the Summer 2013 semester.

Areas of Practice

Dr. Galley has spent most of her career as a clinician working in the outpatient setting, and more specifically in Private Practice.  Her last six years in the clinic were served as a Director of a Private Practice where she was involved in both patient care and business management.  She currently works part-time in the Outpatient department at Moffitt Cancer Center.  As an Orthopaedic Specialist, her clinical interests continue in this area and more specifically in the treatment of runners and barefoot athletes.

Professional Activity Summary

Dr. Galley has been an APTA member since 1999, is a current member of the Education and Orthopaedic sections and a former member of the Private Practice section.  She also serves as a member of the Clinical Education Special Interest Group (CESIG) within the Education section of the APTA.  She served as First Vice Chair of the Southeastern District of the Texas Physical Therapy Association from 2002-2004 and as the Chairperson of the Education Committee at Quentin Mease Hospital in Houston, Texas from 2002-2003.  Currently, she serves as an active member of the Florida Consortium of Clinical Educators (FCCE).  She was recently elected as an assembly representative for the West Central District of the Florida Physical Therapy Association (FPTA) as well as to serve on the nominating committee.  Finally, Dr. Galley has been recently nominated to serve on the Arizona School of Health Science (ASHS) Alumni Chapter Physical Therapy Board of Directors.
