About Russell Keck, Ph.D.

My scholarly interests and academic training draw from the fields of literature, philosophy, and cultural studies. l specialize in the late medieval and early modern periods, and I am particularly fascinated with the works of Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, and Milton and their contributions to intellectual history. My other areas of research and teaching concentrate on the European Renaissance, Classical literature and languages (and their revitalization within Renaissance Humanism), early English theatre (medieval, Renaissance, and Restoration), epic and romance literature, Arthurian literature, the History of the Book, continental philosophy, and popular culture (especially in the ways popular culture recycles and repurposes the past). I regularly teach Introduction to University Writing and Research; Critical Reading, Thinking, and Writing; as well as World Literature: Ancient to Early Modern for the Liberal Arts Program. For the English Department, I offer courses in British Literature, Early Modern Studies, Shakespeare, Literary Theory, Introduction to Publishing, and Arthurian Literature. As an Honors College Faculty Fellow, I teach Honors Communication and Critical Thinking, direct the Office of Fellowship Advising, and chair the Harding Undergraduate Research Conference. I also supervise the student-run annual literary journal, Shapes and Names, help coordinate the annual Liberal Arts Colloquium, and sponsor Harding's chapter of the Roosevelt Institute.
