Programmed Cell Death and Abiotic Stress Responses in Plants
The Life of Plants in a Changing Environment (2022)
  • R K Upadhyay
Abstract
Just as for animals, death is an integral part of the lifecycle of plants. Cell
death is essential for the growth and development of eukaryotes,
maintaining tissue and organ homeostasis in concert with cell proliferation,
growth, and differentiation. Programmed cell death is defined as any form
of cell death involving a single or a series of molecular and cellular
orderly processes mediated by intracellular death programmes, regardless
of the (external) trigger or the hallmarks they exhibit
