Finite-temperature dislocation interactionsPhysical Review B (2001)
AbstractWe obtain quantitatively the interaction free energy between two fluctuating dislocation lines that are in contact with a thermal bath. By examining both in-plane and transverse-fluctuation polarizations, we identify attractive and repulsive contributions to the free energy and interpret the results in terms of effective multipolar interactions and the screening of separated lines. We find that the usual form of the dislocation force should be modified to include an additional net attractive force when entropic effects are taken into account.
