About Ravi Ramachandran

My research projects have included investigations in speech processing (coding, enhancement, pitch detection, speaker recognition and blind signal to noise ratio estimation), pattern recognition (vehicle reidentification and mineralogy identification), application specific integrated circuit implementation of signal processing algorithms, one and two dimensional signal processing theory, one and two dimensional digital filter design and nonylphenol biodegradation kinetics. I am currently doing research in the area of deep machine learning and artificial intelligence. The objectives are to (1) build a mathematical basis to explain the decisions of deep neural networks, (2) configure robust and trustworthy algorithms for a variety of applications including speech processing and biomedical imaging and (3) investigate the theory and applications of deep Gaussian mixture models. I also do educational research mainly on the application and learning outcomes assessment of vertical integration of STEM concepts throughout the undergraduate curriculum.
