About Pearl Young

Dr. Young is particularly interested in religious culture and ideology and the way in which they inform larger political and social trends. In particular, her research explores the ways in which antebellum Southerners used evangelical theology to conclude that secession was a moral imperative. A new project considers the reconfiguration of Southern womanhood in the midst of secession and the Civil War.
