About Patricia Gallego

Dr. Patricia Gallego is a pediatric endocrinologist and an assistant professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. Her research mainly concerns diabetes and diabetes complications in children and adolescents.

Dr. Patricia Gallego has Brazilian and Australian training. From January 1986 to January 1992 she completed her training as a Medical Doctor at the Federal University of Parana, Curitiba PR, Brazil. From January 1992 to January 1994, she completed two years of general paediatrics residency at the Department of Paediatrics, Federal University of Parana, Curitiba PR, Brazil. From February 1994 to November 1996 she completed a fellowship in paediatric endocrinology at the same institution. She qualified as a specialist in Endocrinology and Metabolism in November of 1996 in Brazil. In May of 2002, she completed a Masters in Science degree in paediatric endocrinology, at the same institution. She then relocated to Australia. In Western Australia, she completed a second fellowship in diabetes and paediatric endocrinology at the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.

She has accomplished her PhD degree in 2012 through the University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth. From January 2007 to December of 2008, she completed another fellowship on Diabetes Complications at the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sidney, NSW, Australia. Finally, she completed a Research Fellowship in Diabetes at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, QLD, Australia in 2009. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) since 2010 (active 25050).  She currently holds a staff appointment as a paediatric endocrinologist at the Children’s Hospital London, Ontario. She has been promoted to Associate Professor at Western Ontario effective July 1st, 2018.She has an excellent academic track record and published important epidemiological studies on type 1 diabetes and its complications in children and adolescents in high ranking journals such as BMJ and Pediatric Diabetes.
