About Panayota Gounari

Social critic and applied linguist.

My research focuses on the politics of language in the construction of neoliberal discourses in education and society, as well as on reinventing a theory for critical pedagogy.

I explore issues of language policy and linguistic hegemony, the role of language in social change and the construction of human agency/democratic spaces.

I teach graduate courses in psycholinguistics, bilingualism, bilingual/multicultural education, language, literacy and critical discourse analysis.
