About Panayota Gounari

Social critic and linguist.

My research focuses on the politics of language in the construction of neoliberal discourses in education and society, as well as on reinventing a theory for critical pedagogy.

I also explore issues of language policy and linguistic hegemony, the role of language in social change and the construction of human agency/democratic spaces.

I teach graduate courses in psycholinguistics, bilingualism, bilingual/multicultural education, language, literacy and critical discourse analysis.

Present Chair and Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics, College of Liberal Arts, University of Massachusetts Boston
