Abstract

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) data were acquired on eleven bridge decks in central Missouri for the purpose of deck condition assessment. The work was conducted in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Areas of deterioration were identified based on the apparent embedment depths of reinforcing steel and the amplitudes of reflections from the top and bottom layers of the reinforcing steel (top layer of both upper and lower mats). An adaptive approach was developed based on the analysis of individual bridge decks. GPR data collection, processing and interpretation algorithms were proposed as a part of the adaptive approach to assess the condition of the bridge decks.
