About Neil Lennart Anderson

Dr. Neil Anderson received a B.Sc. in Geological Engineering from the University of Manitoba, an M.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Manitoba, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Calgary. Prior to accepting his current position as Professor of Geophysics at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), Dr. Anderson worked for some ten years in the Canadian oil and gas industry and thereafter for four years as a research scientist with the Kansas Geological Survey.

His professional interests are focused on the application of geophysical technologies to geotechnical, structural & environmental engineering investigations, archeology, hydrogeology, hydrocarbon and mineral exploration, and geologic mapping. He routinely works with surface wave technologies (MASW & ReMi), reflection-seismic methods (both conventional and high-resolution), ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic tools (metal detectors and conductivity tools) and electrical resistivity tomography.

Dr. Anderson is the recipient of an Alberta Achievement Award, a Distinguished Service Award from the State of Kansas, a Tracks Award from the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, a Volunteer Service Award from the Canadian Olympic Committee (Speed Skating Official - 1988 Olympic Games), and Outstanding Teaching and Faculty Excellence Awards from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Professor Anderson has made an effort to expose his students to "real professional world" experiences.  Over the years, they have participated in literally hundreds of externally-funded geophysical investigations. D. Anderson routinely acquires shallow geophysical data in support of geotechnical, geohydrologic, structural, pavement, bridge deck, utility and archeological investigations. His crews utilize the following tools: electrical resistivity tomography (land and marine), induced polarization, self potential, ground conductivity, metal detectors, ground penetrating radar, surface waves (MASW and ultrasonic), impact echo, pachometers, reflection seismic, refraction seismic, echo sounding, subbottom profiling, and sidescan sonar.
