About Michael Sampson

In 2018, Dr. Michael Sampson was named associate dean and chief academic officer for PCOM South Georgia. Prior to that appointment, he served as coordinator of clinical education, associate dean for clinical integration, simulation center medical director and associate professor of family medicine and sports medicine at Georgia Campus - Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM).

After completing his B.S. in biology from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, Sampson earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at A.T. Still University in 1992. According to Sampson, his interest in primary care and sports medicine made osteopathic medicine a logical choice with its focus on the whole person.

Following his family medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship, he served as team doctor for various sports organizations including the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Grand Rapids Rampage, Virginia Tech Athletics, Georgia Tech Athletics and the Georgia Force. He also served as ringside physician for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and WWE Performance Center Medical Director.

In addition to his current work at GA-PCOM and PCOM South Georgia, Dr. Sampson’s academic career also included serving as chair of family medicine and assistant professor of family medicine and sports medicine at VCOM (Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine) from 2003 to 2007; GA-PCOM’s director of primary care skills and associate professor of family medicine and sports medicine from 2007 to 2013; and as associate professor of family medicine and sports medicine at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) from 2014 to 2015.

Born in Monaca, Pennsylvania, Dr. Sampson is a fan of Pittsburgh sports teams including the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. He brings “real world” experience to the classroom to share with students in the areas of primary care, sports medicine and OMM. His goal is “to make the 'best of the best better!”
