About Melissa Tovin

Dr. Tovin is the lead faculty for the pediatric course module, which covers two semesters in the Entry-level DPT Program.  She also teaches qualitative research in the entry-level DPT and PhD programs, and health education and wellness content in the entry level DPT program and the transition DPT program.  Dr. Tovin provides dissertation advisement for PhD students. Additionally, Dr. Tovin supervises students in the pediatric clinic at Nova Southeastern University.  

Scholarly Activities and Interests
Dr. Tovin’s research and clinical interests focus on autism spectrum disorders, exercise and wellness, and education.  She has several publications in professional journals, and has also presented at national conferences.   

Areas of Practice
Dr. Tovin has over 25 years of experience as a physical therapist working in a variety of settings including adult neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation, sports medicine, acute care, geriatrics, home care, and pediatrics. Over the past 15 years, she has focused primarily in treating pediatrics in the school, out-patient clinic, and home settings.  Currently, Dr. Tovin treats pediatric patients in the clinic at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.     

Professional Activity Summary
Dr. Tovin has been an APTA member since 1986, and is currently a member of the Pediatric section.  Dr. Tovin is a peer reviewer for the Strength and Conditioning Journal, and Physical Therapy, the journal of the American Physical Therapy Association.
