In this work we present the Interactive Research Methods Lab (IRML), an innovative space recently created by faculty in the Bagwell College of Education (Kennesaw State University) with the aim of challenging the mainstream approach to the teaching and learning of research methods in education. Through the use of ad hocmultimedia resources and interactive augmented reality contents, the IRML allows undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and novice researchers to generate methodologically-sound research designs. The IRML provides a multimodal hands-on experience in line with principles of progressive education, and the Open Science movement. The lab offers a physical and a virtual space, providing students enrolled in face-to-face and online courses with personalized instruction and practical social experience in setting out research designs for their methods courses, capstone projects, research proposals and dissertations. In order to assess the impact of the IRML on the teaching and learning of research methods, as well as to identify ways to enhance it, an evaluative case study is being conducted.
