About Martin Burg

Dr. Martin Burg joined the Department of Biomedical Sciences in 2001 and has also held a joint appointment in the Cell and Molecular Biology Department for more than 10 years.  His research approach is multidisciplinary, employing techniques and asking questions across disciplines such as cell and molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, and behavioral neuroscience.  He has been studying the function and regulation of Hdc gene expression, since discovering the Hdc gene and mutations in the Hdc gene in Drosophila melanogaster.  Currently, Dr. Burg is utilizing a number of transgenic approaches (including RNAi and CRISPR mutagenesis) in combination with confocal microscopy to better understand the role of histamine as a regulator of behavior.  Students are asked to directly contact Dr. Burg if interested in gaining research experience in the areas indicated above.
