Dr. Maria Wu is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr. You(Maria) Wu is an assistant professor at Western University and academic urogynecologist at London Health Sciences Centre. A native of Burnaby, BC, she completed her B.Sc honours degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University, and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Calgary. She then pursued her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Western University, before staying on to embark her fellowship in Urogynecology and Female Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery. During her fellowship training, she also successfully obtained her Masters in Science in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. She is honoured to join the Division of Urogynecology at Western University in March 2021, after working for a while in both in British Columbia and Ontario.  

Dr. Wu's varied clinical practice consists of both urogynecology and general gynecology. As a clinician researcher, Dr. Wu has a strong passion for clinical research. During her MSc training, she developed her research interests in systematic reviews and meta-analysis, and health administrative data research using Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) data. She has since published multiple first-author manuscripts in internationally renowned journals. She has collaborated with a number of world-class researchers across multiple disciplines, and presented her research at numerous national and international meetings. She has broadened her research interests to include patient-reported clinical outcomes in urogynecology, and pelvic floor surgery outcomes in women with gynecological cancers, in the recent years. She is serving as a reviewer for several journals including the International Urogynecology Journal and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.  

Dr. Wu is also actively involved in national and international committees including the Canadian Society of Pelvic Medicine Scientific Committee, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Canada Urogynecology Committee, and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons Systematic Review Group. She aspires to be a leader in female pelvic medicine research by her ongoing reserach output, including the generation of Canadian clinical practice guidelines in urogynecology. Outside of caring for patients and dedicating her time to academia, she enjoys baking, hiking, playing the piano, and spending time with her husband and adorable 3-year old daughter.
