About Maruice Mangum

Maruice Mangum is the Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Professor of Political Science in the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston, Texas. He is also Co-Editor of the Ralph Bunche Journal of Public Affairs.
A leading scholar in the field of African-American politics, he is the author of several articles focusing on the political opinions and political participation (primarily of African Americans). He has published in Party Politics, Political Research Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, Politics and Religion, Policy Studies Journal, Polity, Journal of Black Studies, American Review of Politics, National Political Science Review, the Journal of Political Science, International Social Science Review and Journal of Social Science. Additionally, he has published several chapters in edited volumes.
Dr. Mangum’s research generally focuses on American political behavior. He studies American public opinion on political trust, affirmative action, immigration, and criminal justice policies.
In 2007, Dr. Mangum was recognized for his outstanding work in the classroom. The National Conference of Black Political Scientists selected him as the recipient of the Anna J. Cooper Teaching Award for Excellence in Teaching.
In 2011, Dr. Mangum was recognized for excellence in teaching by the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs when he was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award.
