Abstract
This paper examines the relationship among governance, absorptive capacity, and the success and extent of Business Intelligence (BI) adoption. Analysis of data from a survey of information technology and institutional research professionals in higher education institutions resulted in significant findings, suggesting that success and extent of BI adoption are negatively associated with centralization and positively associated with absorptive capacity. These findings suggest that positioning locus of control in a decentralized manner, across several units in an organization, may be necessary to gather enough expertise and absorptive capacity to achieve successful and extensive BI adoption.
