About Lynne Porter

Lynne Porter is an Associate Professor and Resident Designer in the Theatre Program at Fairfield University, where she has been teaching, administrating and making theatre since 1995. She is currently the Director of the Theatre Program in the Visual and Performing Arts Department.
Lynne Porter is a professional scenic designer. She has designed extensively for the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, where she was recently appointed an Affiliated Artist of the Ensemble. She has also designed for the Harrisburg Shakespeare Festival, the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre in North Carolina, and the Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, the Horizon Theatre in Atlanta, the Penobscot Theatre in Maine, and the Maine Shakespeare Festival, among others. She is also the Founding Artistic Director of Shakespeare Ventures, a professional classical summer theatre, where she both directed and designed. She has also held faculty positions at Susquehanna University, Mars Hill College, and the University of North Texas.
Her current research involves developing methods for teaching creativity in the design process. She has recently published Unmasking Theatre Design: A Designer's Guide to Finding Inspiration and Cultivating Creativity, a book that deals with the subject.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in scenic design from Indiana University. Lynne is an associate member of the Shakespeare Theatre Association of America, a member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and a member of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
